Visit to His Grace Theodosius, Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church

As part of their visit to Kerala from 11 to 17 December 2022, Bishop Brian Farrell, Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, and Fr Hyacinthe Destivelle, Official of the Eastern Section, paid a courtesy visit to His Grace Theodosius, Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Primate of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

The meeting, which took place on 15 December at the headquarters of the Mar Thomas Church in Thiruvalla, was the first contact of the Dicastery with the new Metropolitan since his election on 14 November 2020. The discussion was an opportunity to bring the greetings of His Holiness Pope Francis and to consider a more regular dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

The meeting was also attended by His Grace Joseph Mar Barnabas, Suffragan Metropolitan, recently received by Pope Francis, and His Grace Thomas Mar Koorilos, Malankara Catholic Archbishop of Tiruvalla, and other Catholic and Mar Thoma officials.

The Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church is in full communion with the Anglican Church, the Church of South India (CSI) and the Church of North India (CNI). Its previous primate, His Grace Philipose Mar Chrysostom, participated in the Second Vatican Council as an observer.
